Providence, R.I. - Women's ice hockey player Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ontario) was selected to the 2008 New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star team. Smith was one of four defensemen selected to the team, and one of 12 players overall. Smith's selection marks the 17th straight season that a member of the Friar women's hockey team has garnered All-New England honors.

Smith was also named to the 2008 All-Hockey East First Team and to the 2008 Hockey East All-Tournament Team. This season, Smith earned Hockey East Player of the Month honors for January and she finished tied for the national lead in goals scored by a defenseman with 16. For the season she had 16 goals and 14 assists for a team-high 30 points.
