Bob Deraney Nominated For 2010 AHCA Coach of the Year Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey Head Coach Bob Deraney has been nominated for the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year Award, it was announced today by the AHCA. Deraney is one of eight finalists for the award. To be nominated, a coach must lead his team to the Frozen Four or be named his league's coach of the year.

Deraney led the Friars to their third regular season championship, finishing the season 11-5-5 in Hockey East play. The Friars earned the right to host the Hockey East Tournament on March 6 and 7. PC fell in the semifinals to the No. 5 seed Connecticut, 3-2. Deraney led Providence to its 600th victory as a program when PC defeated Cornell, 6-3, on January 9, 2010. Providence became only the second team in NCAA Division I history with over 600 all-time victories. Coach Deraney also earned his 200th career victory at the helm of Providence College with a 3-2 defeat of rival UNH on January 17.
