Women's Hockey Dedicates New Locker Room, Holds Annual Alumni Game, And Honors 1992 And 2002 Championship Teams.
March 13, 2007 On Sunday, March 11, the Providence College women's ice hockey team held a dedication ceremony for their new locker room, which was made possible through the tremendous support of the Hon. & Mrs. William C. Leary `60. The Friars also hosted their annual alumni game and honored the 15th anniversary of the 1992 ECAC Championship team as well as the fifth Anniversary of the 2002 ECAC East Championship team. The event began with a lunch, followed by opening remarks from Director of Athletics, Robert G.. Driscoll, Jr. and an address by Reverend Brian J. Shanley, O.P., President of the college. Then each present member of the 1992 and 2002 Championship teams were honored, as they received plaques that showcased a team picture, from head coach Bob Deraney. Hon. William C. Leary `60 spoke next, emphasizing the the special kind of leaders on and off the ice that the women's hockey program helps to develop. The event then moved down to the new locker room where he was able to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony, as the locker room was dedicated. Then over 25 former Friars took to the ice as they participated in the program's annual alumni game.
