Women's ice hockey senior forward Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.) was named Hockey East Athletic Republic Co-Player of the Week. It is the second time this season Anderson has been named Player of the Week (Oct. 30) for her play.
Anderson led the Friars in their 5-4 overtime comeback win against fourth seeded New Hampshire on Saturday, March 2 in the Hockey East Quarterfinal round. Anderson notched three points in the win on one goal and two assists. She earned an assist on the game-tying goal during the third period and finished the game with a plus/minus rating of plus one.
Anderson leads the Friars in scoring with a career best 35 points on a team leading 19 goals and 16 assists. This season Anderson has notched two game-winning goals and leads the team in power-play goals with six, ranking her tied for third in Hockey East.
The Friars were also named Team of the Week for their win on Saturday. With the win Providence will advance to the Hockey East Semifinal round for the 11th consecutive season. The Friars are the only Hockey East team to clinch the semifinal round every season since the inauguration of the league.
Providence will take on top seeded Boston University on Saturday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Rink, Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Hyannis, Mass. The winner will advance to the Hockey East Championship match set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. The championship game will also take place in Hyannis at the Kennedy Rink.
