PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Providence women's ice hockey will face off against arch rival New Hampshire at noon on Saturday, March 7 in the semifinals of the Hockey East Tournament. The semifinals and finals are hosted by top-seeded New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. The Friars, seeded fourth, hosted fifth-seeded Connecticut on Saturday, February 28 and came away with a 3-0 victory to advance to Durham.
The game will be broadcast live over the internet through B2TV.com. Fans can find the link on the women's hockey home page of Friars.com. The New England Sports Network (NESN) will air the WHEA Championship Game on Sunday, March 8 on tape delay at 4 p.m.
Hockey East Tournament games will be available for viewing by a worldwide audience and will be aired through www.hockeyeastonline.com as well as www.b2tv.com. Fans wanting to watch hockey games via B2 Networks will need a highspeed Internet connection and a current version of Microsoft Windows Media Player. Games will be sold on an individual basis for $8 (US).
The other semifinal will see #2 Boston College take on #3 Boston University at 3:00 p.m. The championship game will be played at 12:30 on Sunday.
Providence will look to reach its sixth Hockey East Championship game in the seven years of Hockey East. PC won the first three Hockey East titles from 2003-2005 before New Hampshire claimed the last three titles. PC and UNH have faced off four times in the Hockey East Tournament. This will be the first meeting between the teams in the semifinals. Each team has won two titles at the other's expense.
