Providence College junior defenseman Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) was named USCHO.com Women's Defensive Player of the Week on February 25, 2003.

Halcisak earned the honor for her strong play in the Friars' games against No. 5 New Hampshire and Maine. On Saturday, February 22 Halcisak helped the Friars defeat the Wildcats, 7-4, with a goal and four assists. Halcisak earned one of her assists on a shorthanded goal that proved to be the game winner. The five points put Halcisak over the 100 point plateau for her career, making her the 24th woman in Friar ice hockey history to accomplish the feat. On Sunday, February 23 Halcisak helped Providence clinch the inagural HOCKEY EAST regular-season championship with a 2-1 victory over Maine. She assisted on the game-tying goal and helped hold the Black Bears to just 15 shots on goal and 0-for-5 on the power-play. Halcisak is first on the team in scoring with 14 goals and 25 assists for a total of 39 points. Halcisak's 39 points ranks her 14th nationally overall and second among defensemen in scoring.

Providence College has off until March 15 when they travel to Northeastern's Matthews Arena to play in the inagural Women's HOCKEY EAST tournament as the No. 1 seed.
