PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Three members of the No. 9/10 Providence College women's ice hockey team have been recognized by the Hockey East Conference with season awards. Freshmen Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) and Rebecca Morse (Westfield, N.J.) have been selected to the conference's All-Rookie Team, while senior co-captain Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) has earned the league's Sportsmanship Award.
The selections were voted on by Hockey's East's eight head coaches.
Buie finished the regular season tied for the team-lead with 17 points in conference play. Overall, she entered the post season third on the Friars with 23-points (10 goals, 13 assists). She was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week twice, and Rookie of the Month for December.
Morse has been a steady presence on the blue line throughout her rookie campaign, finishing the regular season with a plus/minus rating of +15 while contributing 14 points (four goals, 10 assists). The efforts included three, game-winning scores. Recently, she was named rookie of the week as well as conference Rookie of the Month for February.
O'Neill overcame injury to make an immediate impact for the Friars in conference play. In 14 Hockey East contests, she has registered nine points and a plus/minus rating of +7. Meanwhile, she was called for just one, minor penalty in those contests, garnering the recognition for her "clean play."
The Friars will face Boston College on Saturday, March 5 in the Hockey East Semifinals. Face-off at Walter Brown Arena, the host site for the semifinals and finals, is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Tickets for the semifinals and Championship are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, children, and students.
