Women's Ice Hockey Defenseman Rebecca Morse Named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month

March 1, 2011

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It has been a good week for Rebecca Morse.

One day after being named her conference's Rookie of the Week, the Providence College women's ice hockey freshman has been named Hockey East's Pro Ambition's Rookie of the Month for February.

It is the first time she has been honored with the award.

Morse (Westfield, N.J.) helped the tenth-ranked Friars go 5-1 during the month, contributing five points and registering a plus/minus rating of plus six during the span. Her efforts included the game-winning goal, in the final minute of regulation, in PC's 3-2 victory over Vermont on February 19. She also scored a go-ahead tally in Providence's 5-2 quarterfinal victory over Maine on February 26.

Morse becomes the second Friar freshman to earn the honor, joining Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) who was recognized in December.

Morse and the Friars will face Boston College on Saturday, March 5 in the Hockey East Semifinals. Face-off at Walter Brown Arena, the host site for the semifinals and finals, is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Tickets for the semifinals and Championship are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, children, and students. There is a $2 group rate for parties of 10 or more. Students with a valid identification from any WHEA school get in free. To purchase group tickets call 617-358-7016. Tickets can be purchased in person at Agganis Arena, at Walter Brown Arena on game day, and through www.Ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster outlets and via phone at 800-745-3000.
