PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
For the second week in a row, Providence College Women's Hockey Goalie Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario) has been named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Women's Hockey East Association. It is the eleventh time in her career she has earned the honor.
Lacasse stopped all 38 shots she faced to lead Providence past Maine, 6-0, in Saturday's Hockey East Quarterfinal at Schneider Arena. It was her second shutout in the last three games and seventh of the season. In addition, she increased her school record for career shutouts to 19.
The Friars will now play Northeastern in the first of Saturday's two semifinals, held this season at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Hyannis, Mass. The Friars and Huskies will face-off at 12:30 p.m. Boston University and Boston College square off at 3:30.
Both semifinal games will be broadcast live on the internet by Pack Network at www.hockeyeastonline.tv. Games will be sold on an individual basis for $8.95.
The winners of Saturday's contests will advance to Sunday's Hockey East Championship Game, also at the HYCC. Game-time for the Championship will be 1 p.m.
Tickets for the 10th annual WHEA Championship are $8 for general admission, and $5 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets can also be ordered via mail order at www.hockeyeastonline.com. Tickets are also on sale in advance at the HYCC box office or will be available via walk up sale on game days.
