Head Coach Bob Deraney To Be Honored At The Mal Brown Awards Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Mal Brown Alumni Club will host the Mal Brown Awards on Thursday, April 22 at the Smith Center for the Arts on the PC campus. A reception begins at 5:45 p.m. prior to the awards presentation. Head Women's Hockey Coach Bob Deraney will be honored as the recipient of the Very Reverend Vincent C. Dore, O.P. Award. The award honors a member of the Providence College community whose contributions to the college through the years have been manifold, yet who remain unpretentious in their service.

Deraney led the women's hockey team to the 2010 Hockey East regular season championship this season earning the right to host the semifinals and finals of the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7. The Friars finished the regular season with a 15-10-9 record and are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation.

During the season, Deraney led the women's hockey program to its 600th victory, becoming only the second program in NCAA Division I history to earn over 600 wins. Deraney also reached a personal milestone this season, earning his 200th career victory as head coach. He joins former coach John Marchetti as the only two coaches in Providence College women's hockey history with 200 victories.

Tickets for the Mal Brown Awards and reception are $45 per person, which includes beverages along with hors d'oeuvres, dessert and coffee. All proceeds from the evening serve to fund the Mal Brown Scholarship, providing financial assistance to deserving Providence College undergraduates from the Greater Providence area.
