Providence College women's ice hockey forward Ashley Cottrell Named Athletic Republic Player of the Week.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey forward Ashley Cottrell (Sterling Heights, Mich.) has been named the Athletic Republic Player of the Week by Hockey East. It is the second time she has been recognized with the award.

    Cottrell was brilliant in leading the Friars to a 6-2 upset of fourth-ranked Boston College Saturday, February 4, at Conte Forum. The senior tallied her first career hat trick and then added an assist to complete the four-point effort.

    Cottrell becomes the third Friar to earn the Player of the Week nod from the conference. Junior Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.) was recognized on November 28 for a four-point performance in a win at Union, and senior Laura Veharanta (La Verne, Calif.) was lauded on November 7 for her role in victories against Maine and Yale.

    The Friars will visit arch-rival New Hampshire this Saturday, February 11, and again on Sunday , February 12. Both games face off at 2 p.m.

    Providence will play its final, regular season home game on Friday, February 17th when it hosts #8 Northeastern. Prior to the 7 p.m. puck drop, the Friars will honor the seven members of the class of 2012. Tickets are available by calling (401) 865 GO PC or by visiting Friars.com.
