The Providence College women's ice hockey team volunteered at the Special Olympics Carnival on Friday, February 1. The event, which was hosted by the Special Olympics Rhode Island Chapter, took place at the Convention Center in downtown Providence from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The Friars took part in several activities that included shooting pucks and playing air hockey with the participants. Activities also included shooting basketballs as well as soccer balls. Helping out along with the Friars were members of the New England Revolution, as well as former New England Patriot and Boston Celtics players.

The Carnival was run by the Special Olympics Rhode Island, which is one of the most innovative and dynamic sports organizations in the state. Special Olympics Rhode Island provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 2,500 children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Rhode Island.

The Friars return to action Saturday, February 9 when they play UConn in Storrs, Conn. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
