PROVIDENCE, R.I. - This week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll was released today and the Providence College Friars came in at No. 9 with 44 points. The Friars are one of four Hockey East teams to earn a spot amongst the top-10 as New Hampshire (122) came in at No. 5, Northeastern (91) sits at No. 6 and Connecticut (48) stands at No. 8. Mercyhurst College (190) is the unanimous choice at No. 1 with 19 first-place votes.

This past weekend, PC swept Hockey East rival Boston College in a home-and-home series. The Friars won 2-1 in overtime at Schneider Arena on Saturday, January 23. Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) netted the game winner with only 31 seconds remaining in overtime. The Friars then traveled to Boston College on Sunday and came away with a 6-3 victory. Providence currently owns the second-longest unbeaten streak in the nation at 10 games. PC has gone 8-0-2 over the past 10 games and has won seven straight. The seven straight victories are the most since PC won 10-straight games to finish the 2002-03 season en route towards winning the inaugural Hockey East Championship.

Providence will host the University of Vermont on Friday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena. The game will be televised on Cox Sports TV in Rhode Island. PC will travel to Cambridge, Mass. on Sunday for a top-10 matchup against No. 7 Harvard. The game is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Bright Hockey Center.
