Women's Hockey Player Genevieve Lacasse Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced by the Hockey East Association that freshman goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, January 26. Lacasse led the Friars to a 2-0 victory at home over Boston University on Saturday, January 24, as she stopped all 34 shots that came her way. She turned around and led PC to a 2-1 victory at BU on Sunday, January 25, making 23 stops. Providence is currently tied with UNH for second place in Hockey East with a record of 14-10-2 (9-3-1 HE)

Lacasse earned her fifth shutout of the season and was awarded with her third Rookie of the Week nomination (1/12, 11/17). This award comes after Lacasse was named Rookie of the Month for November. The sensational freshman has posted shutouts in three consecutive Saturday contests as she blanked #6 UNH on Jan. 10 before holding Vermont scoreless on Jan. 17.

Lacasse has been excellent in her freshman campaign. She stands at 12-7-0 on the season with a 1.89 goals against average to go along with a .934 save percentage. In conference action, Lacasse has been even more impressive. The talented freshman has given up only 11 goals while stopping 251 shots in 10 Hockey East games. On the season, she owns a 1.10 goals against average to go along with a stellar .958 save percentage in league play, both figures lead the conference.

Providence will host No. 8/9 Connecticut on Saturday, January 31 in Schneider Arena. The two teams will finish off the season series at Connecticut on Sunday. Both games will begin at 1:00 p.m.
