Whitney Dove Named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week

Jan. 23, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women’s ice hockey team’s freshman defender, Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia) was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week in announcement made by the league on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017.

The Rookie of the Week nod for Dove is her first weekly honor as Rookie of the Week and has been a Top Peformer twice before (Oct. 31, Jan. 16). The nod also serves as Providence’s third consecutive Hockey East Rookie of the Week after Avery Fransoo (Jan. 16) and Clare Minnerath (Jan. 9).

Dove was recognized after her five-point weekend against Boston University. The freshman defender posted two multi-point games, including a three-assist outing on Jan. 21 to help the Friars erase a 4-1 deficit and tie the Terriers, 5-5. Dove followed her performance with two more assists on Jan. 22 at Boston University.

Dove’s five assists puts her as the defensive scoring leader in Hockey East with 21 points on five goals and 16 assists.

The Friars are back in action on Jan. 28 at the University of Maine for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop in Orono, Maine.
