It was announced by the Hockey East Association that Providence College junior forward Jean O'Neill (Strafford, Pa.) was named Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday, January 18. O'Neill led No. 9 PC to a pair of victories over No. 3 UNH this past weekend with two goals and two assists. O'Neill tallied two goals, including the game winner, and an assist in PC's 3-2 victory on Saturday before registering her fourth point of the weekend with an assist on the opening goal of PC's 3-2 victory on Sunday.
O'Neill has been on a tear as of late, registering 10 points (4 G, 6 A) in her last five games after accounting for only 10 points in her first 20 games of the season. The junior forward was voted assistant captain this season and has recorded seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points this season. O'Neill has tallied three power-play goals, one game-winning goal and a short-handed goal this season. With O'Neill's hot streak, the Friars own the second-longest unbeaten streak in the country at eight games (6-0-2).
Providence will host Boston College for the fourth-annual Skating Strides game to benefit breast cancer awareness on Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena.
