PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College sophomore defender Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ontario) was named Women's USCHO Defensive Player of the Week.

Smith tallied five points (two goals, three assists) on the weekend versus Minnesota State on Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15 at PC's Schneider Arena. Smith earned her 10th assist of the season in a 3-3 tie with the Mavericks on Saturday. Smith enjoyed a career game-high with four points on two goals and two assists in the 6-2 win on Sunday.

Smith is currently fifth on the team and leads the sophomore class with 16 points on four goals and 12 assists. She is one point away from matching her season career high of 17 points.

Senior captain Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) had a six-point weekend versus Minnesota State. For her efforts, she was named USCHO Offensive Player of the Week runner-up honors.

The Friars will host Northeastern on Saturday, January 21 at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m. The very next day on Sunday, January 22, the Friars will travel to Orono, Maine to face the Black Bears at the Alfond Arena at 2:00 p.m.
