Providence College Women's Ice Hockey Team Hosts Annual Alumni Game

Jan. 18, 2011

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Saturday, January 15 the Providence College women's ice hockey team held their annual alumni game before the team's game versus New Hampshire at. Around 11 alumni participated in the game along with head coach Bob Deraney and assistant coach Karen Thatcher. Additionally, 14 alumni attended both the alumni game and the women's game that followed.

"The alumni game is such a great and important event for our program. Women's hockey is such a young sport and we recognize that our program is at the level it is today because of the women who have come before us," Thatcher said. "They raised the bar for all to follow and our players have the opportunities they have today because of the work of our alums. The backbone of our program is that tradition, and the alumni game is one way we try to show our gratitude for all they have done for us... and to have a little fun at the same time!"

The Friars take on Boston College this Friday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena. It is also the Skating Strides game with all proceeds going to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
