PROVIDENCE, R.I. (January 17, 2006) -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team moved up in the national polls with a ninth place ranking in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine and the USCHO.com polls this week. The Friars are coming off a 1-0-1 weekend with a 3-3 tie and 6-2 win in a home-and-home series against Minnesota State on Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15.

University of Wisconsin (188) retained the No. 1 position for the fourth straight week. University of New Hampshire (167) and St. Lawrence University (152) round out the second and third slots, respectively.

Providence is led by senior captain Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) with 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists. The Friars will host conference foe Northeastern on Saturday, January 21 at PC's Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m. The very next day, the Friars will travel to Orono, Maine to face the Black Bears at the Alfond Arena at 2:00 p.m.
