PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women’s ice hockey team’s freshman defender, Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan), was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week in announcement made by the league on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017.

The Rookie of the Week nod for Fransoo is her first weekly honor and serves as Providence’s second consecutive Hockey East Rookie of the Week after Clare Minnerath (Sartell, Minn.) earned the honor on Jan. 9.

Fransoo was recognized for her four-point weekend against Hockey East opponent, Connecticut. The freshman defender posted two multi-point games to help the Friars to a weekend sweep over the Huskies, winning 5-2 (Jan. 14) and 4-1 (Jan. 15).

Fransoo recorded two power play assists on Jan. 14 to start of the Providence scoring in Storrs, Conn. She added two more assists on Jan. 15 to help Providence close the weekend and reach a record of 12-11-1 (7-6-1 HE).

The Friars are back in action on Jan. 21 at Schneider Arena to host Boston University. In honor of the College’s centennial, the Friars will wear commemorative throwback jerseys in the Hockey East battle at 2:00 p.m.
