WAKEFIELD, Mass. -
Providence College women's ice hockey freshman goaltender Sarah Bryant (Bethlehem, Pa.) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her play over the weekend. Bryant is the first Friar to earn the honor this season. The last Friar to be named Defensive Player of the week was on March 5, 2012, when Genevieve Lacasse '12 earned the honor for her play in the Hockey East Tournament.
Bryant earned her seventh win and helped the Friars close out their weekend series at Rensselaer. She made 26 saves on 28 shots, including several breakaway stops, in the Friars, 3-2, win on Saturday, Jan. 12. Bryant helped the Friars hold their 3-2 lead throughout the third period with 11 saves.
Bryant has played in 17 games for the Friars this season and posted a 7-6-3 overall record. In 371 saves Bryant has earned a .885 save percentage and a 2.99 goals against average. Bryant received Hockey East honors earlier this season on Nov. 26 for Rookie of the Week.
Bryant and the Friars finish out their regular season with 10 Hockey East games. Providence will kick off its Hockey East series with Northeastern on Sunday, Jan. 20 (2:00 p.m.) at Matthews Arena.
