PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced by the Hockey East Association that freshman goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, January 12. Lacasse led the Friars to a 5-0 victory over #6 New Hampshire on Saturday, January 10, as she stopped all 43 shots that came her way.

The victory over New Hampshire was the first for PC in 11 contests. Lacasse earned her third shutout of the season and was awarded with her second Rookie of the Week nomination (11/17). The sensational freshman shutout Connecticut on Nov. 16 and Brown on Nov 29. This award comes after she was named Rookie of the Month for November.

Lacasse has been a dominant presence in the Friar net, especially during conference play. The talented freshman has given up only six goals while stopping 162 shots in six Hockey East games. On the season, she owns a 1.00 goals against average to go along with a stellar .964 save percentage in league play. Her overall numbers have been eye-popping as well. She currently stands at 9-5 with a 1.69 goals against average and a .949 save percentage.

Providence will travel to Hanover, N.H. on Tuesday, January 13, to take on #7 Dartmouth in a non-conference game. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. in Thompson Arena.
