Genevieve Lacasse Named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced by the Hockey East Association that Providence College sophomore goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) has been named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week on January 12. Lacasse led PC to a pair of victories this past weekend over No. 8 Cornell including a 3-0 shutout on Sunday. Lacasse finished the weekend with 51 saves and a 1.50 goals against average.

Lacasse made 22 saves on Saturday as PC came away with a 6-3 victory. With the win, Providence became only the second program to earn 600 victories. The sophomore goaltender turned around and made 29 saves on Sunday to earn her third shutout of the season. Lacasse has an 8-7-8 record on the season to go along with a 2.09 goals against average and a .925 save percentage. Lacasse shares the award with Northeastern goaltender Leah Sulyma.

The Friars will face No. 3 New Hampshire in a home-and-home series this weekend. Providence will travel to Durham, N.H. on Saturday before the two teams face off at Schneider Arena on Sunday.
