Wakefield, Mass. -
Providence College women's hockey sophomore Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) was named Hockey East Warrior Hockey Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 6. Romanchuk earned the honor after posting a three-point performance against Rensselaer on Jan. 5.
Romanchuk notched four points in the Friars last three games with an assist against Dartmouth (Dec. 31) and a goal and two assists against RPI (Jan. 5). Romanchuk's goal came at 3:38 of the overtime frame, when she blasted a point shot upstairs for her first career overtime tally and second game-winning goal of the season (first came against Maine on Nov. 24). The three-point performance marked a career-high for the sophomore defenseman.
It is the first time in Romanchuk's career that she has been recognized by the league with weekly honors. The last Friar to be named Hockey East Player of the Week was senior Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) after posting a seven point (2-5-7) weekend to help the Friars sweep Hockey East opponent Maine (Nov. 23 and Nov. 24).
The Friars are back in action on Friday, Jan. 10, when they travel to Durham, N.H. to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats in a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Whittemore Center. It will mark the first of the final 13 regular season Hockey East games for Providence.
