Women's Hockey Travels To RPI For Tuesday Game

FRIARS START SECOND HALF OF SEASON AT RPI
  • Providence will travel to Troy, N.Y. to play against RPI in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday, January 6. 
  • Puck drop is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Houston Field House.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
  • RPI enters the contest with a 4-13-2 overall record and a 2-6-0 mark in the ECAC.
  • The Engineers have played two games in January, winning against Princeton, 4-3, and dropping a 1-0 contest versus Quinnipiac. 
  • Alexa Gruschow leads the team with 13 points on a team-best six goals and seven assists.
  • Taylor Mahoney has registered a team-high nine assists.
  • Kelly O'Brien and Brianna Piper have split time in net with 11 and eight games played, respectively. 
  • O'Brien has put together a 3.01 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage for a 3-8-0 record.
  • Piper has a 1-5-2 record with a 3.32 goals-against average and a .886 save percentage. 

LAST REGULAR SEASON GAME FOR THE FRIARS
  • The Friars fell 3-1 to No. 4/5 Boston University on Dec. 8 to close out the first half of the season.
  • Freshman Brooke Boquist tallied her third goal of the season while sophomore Cassidy Carels picked up an assist, her seventh of the year 
  • Junior Allie Morse made 31 stops in goal and gave up two goals. 

FRIARS DROP 3-1 DECISION IN EXHIBITION GAME VS. THE BOSTON BLADES
  • The Friars fell 3-1 to the Boston Blades of the CWHL in an exhibition game at Schneider Arena on Saturday, Jan. 3.
  • Senior Beth Hanrahan scored the lone goal for the Friars in the second period, with the assist coming from senior Brooke Simpson.
  • Junior Sarah Bryant took over in net in the second period and made a total of 37 saves for the Friars, giving up no goals.
  • Junior Allie Morse contributed 14 saves in the first period.
  • Former Friars Corinne Buie `14, Ashley Cottrell `12 and Genevieve Lacasse `12 skated for the Blades in the exhibition. 

UP NEXT
  • Following the non-conference game against RPI, the Friars will return to Schneider Arena for a Hockey East contest on Saturday, Jan. 10 against New Hampshire. 
  • Puck drop is set for 1:00 p.m.

HEATING UP
  • Senior forward Beth Hanrahan has scored six goals in her last eight games. 
  • Hanrahan scored just two goals in the opening 12 games of the season.
  • She has had two games with two goals, at Maine (2-1 OT win) and vs. Brown (4-2 win).

CONSECUTIVE GAMES PLAYED STREAK
  • Senior forwards Beth Hanrahan and Haley Frade have played in every game of their careers (128). The streak began in 2011-12.
  • Hanrahan has tallied 64 points on 40 goals and 24 assists for her career while Frade has put together 79 points on 28 goals and 51 assists.
