Maureen Murphy Named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) of the Providence College women’s ice hockey team was named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for the first time this season on Jan. 3.

Murphy helped the Friars to a 2-0-1 record in the month of December. She racked up five points on three goals and two assists for a 1.67 points per game average. Additionally, she led all rookies in short-handed goals (two) and plus-minus rating (+5). The forward scored the game-winning goal against Boston University on Dec. 9 after being named Hockey East Rookie of the Week for her performances against UConn (Dec. 4).

Currently, Murphy leads the team in goals scored with 13. She is tied for second in overall points with 17. The Friars are 10-1-1 when Murphy notches either a goal or an assist.

The Friars take on the University of Vermont this weekend in Burlington, Vt. Games are set for Saturday, Jan. 6 at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 7 at 2:00 p.m.
