Women's Hockey Player Genevieve Lacasse Named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After backstopping the Friars to a 1-0-1 record in the month of December, it was announced by the Hockey East Association that Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) has been named Bauer Goaltender of the Month.

    The sophomore goaltender finished December with a 1.44 goals against average and a .940 save percentage. Lacasse made 22 saves in PC's historic 4-1 victory over No. 3 New Hampshire on December 5. Providence became the first Hockey East team to defeat UNH in Durham, N.H. since the league's inception in 2003. Lacasse turned around and made 25 saves in a 2-2 tie at Boston College on December 11.

    This honor marks the second monthly award of Lacasse's career. She was named Rookie of the Month for the month of November during the 2008-09 season. On the year, Lacasse stands at 5-7-7 with a 2.17 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. She's recorded 1,245 saves for her career, moving her into third place on the all-time list at Providence.

    Providence will compete at the Easton Holiday Showcase in St. Cloud, Minn. on January 2 and 3. The Friars will face off against St. Cloud State on Saturday, January 2 at 4:07 p.m. ET before finishing the trip with a 1:07 p.m. contest against Minnesota State on Sunday, January 3.
