Providence Beats Colby College, 7-2
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College defeated Colby College, 7-2, Saturday night, January 10 in women's hockey action at Schneider Arena. Freshman forward Jessica Tabb led the offense registering one goal and four assists for five out of PC's 18 points in the game.
Colby's Meaghan Sittler scored the game's first goal at the 5:30 mark in the first period. The Friars responded in the second period with junior forward Katie Lachapelle netting two gals at :19 and 13:04 to make the score, 2-1, Providence. PC's freshman defenseman Valerie Bono scored a power play goal at the 18:05 mark to go ahead 3-1 at the end of the second period.
The Friars' scoring continued with freshman forward Corinne Rosen netting a power play goal at the 4:55 mark in the third period. Colby's Juliana Bontecou scored a goal at the 8:07 mark to make the score 4-2. PC then went on to score three more goals in the third period by Tabb at 10:29, junior forward Myia Yates at 11:05 and junior forward Sherryl Jones at the 18:32 mark to make the final score 7-2.
Providence netminder Heather Wilcox made 20 saves for the Friars in the win. Colby goaltender Katie Mangan made 25 stops in the loss.
Providence's overall record is now 4-12-0 and 4-6-0 in the ECAC, while Colby is now 2-6-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the ECAC.
The Friars return to action on Friday, January 16 against Concordia at the Husky Invitational at 7:00 p.m.
