New Hampshire Defeats Providence, 6-2.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- New Hampshire defeated Providence College, 6-2, Sunday, Dec. 28 in women's hockey action at the Brown Holiday Tournament in Providence, R.I. Sabrina Monsen led the Wildcat offense with two goals, including the game winner.
Monsen opened the scoring at 2:37 of the first period. Samantha Holmes increased the UNH lead to 2-0 at the 17:51 mark of the first period. The Wildcats added three more unanswered goals before Jess Tabb put the Friars on the board with her team leading eighth goal of the season at 3:40 of the third period. After UNH added a power-play goal at 8:55 of the third, Amber Bobin tallied the Friars' final goal with 5:30 remaining in the game.
UNH netminders Alicia Roberts and Marcie Bookmaker combined to record 15 saves for the Wildcats. Providence goaltender Heather Wilcox made 27 saves in the loss.
The Friars return to action on Monday, December 29 at the Brown Holiday Tournament against the University of Minnesota at 4:00 p.m. at Providence, R.I. New Hampshire 2 2 2 -- 6 Providence (3-7) 0 0 2 -- 2
