Women's Hockey Skates To A 2-2 Tie, At Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y.. --The ninth-ranked Providence College Women's Hockey team played the Cornell University Big Red, to a 2-2 tie, in ECAC hockey action, on December 4, at Cornell's Lynah's Rink.

Cornell struck first, in the opening period Sarah Oliver found the back of the net at the 12:15 mark, giving the Big Red a 1-0 lead. Providence freshman Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) tied the game at one, on a pass from Holley Tyng, (East Orleans, Mass.) seven minutes into the second period. Four minutes later, PC went ahead, as Jennifer Kranz (Indianapolis, Ind.) beat Big Red Goalie Elizabeth Connelly, for a 2-1 Friar lead. Cornell's Erica Olson tied the game at two, with four minutes to play in the third, and it remained tied as the two teams skated to a scoreless overtime.

Friars goalie Sara DeCosta stopped 34 shots, while Connelly turned away 42 shots for Cornell.

Providence record stands 7-4-1 overall, 6-3-1 in the ECAC, the Big Red move to 3-6-1 and 3-6-1 in league play.

Providence will return to action on December 10, when they host to Wayne State University at 4:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena
