Women's Hockey Defeats St. Lawrence, 1-0

CANTON, N.Y.. --The ninth-ranked Providence College Women's Hockey team defeated the eighth-ranked St. Lawrence University Saints , 1-0, in ECAC hockey action, on December 3, at St. Lawrence's Appleton Arena.

The game was scoreless until the 4:23 mark of the third period, when junior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) beat St. lawrence goalie Caryn Ungewitter on a feed from Kim Mathias (Ballston, Lake, N.Y.) with Jackie Tamsin (Branford, Conn.) also assisting. St. Lawrence was unable to find the equalizer, despite putting 11 shots on the Friar goal in the third period and outshooting Providence 34-21 in the game.

Friars goalie Sara DeCosta stopped 34 shots, for her fourth shutout of the season, while Ungewitter had 20 saves in the loss.

With the win, Providence improves to 7-4-0 overall, 6-3-0 in the ECAC, the Saints fall to 9-3-0 and 4-3-0 in league play.

Providence will return to action on December 4, when they travel to Cornell University at 7:00 p.m.
