Women’s Hockey Defeated At New Hampshire, 2-1

DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College women’s hockey team was defeated, 2-1, by the New Hampshire Wildcats. The Friars move to 7-8-1 (4-4-1 Hockey East) and New Hampshire improves to 5-11-0 (4-6-0 Hockey East).

Providence scored 26 seconds into the game but were unable to strike a second time. Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) tallied the Friar’s lone goal after Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) carried the puck down the half-wall and handed it off to Putigna, who then scored short-side on New Hampshire’s Hilary Cashin.

The Wildcats evened the score at the 4:42 minute mark of the first period from Julie Fedeski and again 1:09 into the third period from Amy Schlagel. Both New Hampshire goals came on the power play.

Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) made 18 saves and the Friars registered 30 shots on goal.

Providence is back in action on Nov. 26 for the 22nd annual Mayor’s Cup against Brown at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. The puck will drop at 3:00 p.m.
