PC Women's Hockey Stops Northeastern, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the Northeastern University Huskies, 2-0 in women's ECAC hockey action, on Saturday November 13, at Northeastern's Matthews Arena.

Junior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) led the Friar attack, scoring her second goal of the season and assisting on freshman Jenn Butsch's (Berlin, Vt.) first career goal. Tabb's goal came at the 6:37 mark of the second period, when she tipped in a rebound in front of the net to give the Friar's a 1-0 lead. Butsch added an insurance goal, on a power play, four minutes into the second period as she beat NU goalie Erica Silva to give PC a 2-0 lead, Tabb and sophomore Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) assisted on the play.

Friar netminder Sara DeCosta stopped 35 shot for the shutout win, while Silva turned away 19 shots in the loss.

With the victory the Friars improve to 4-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the ECAC, and Northeastern falls to 5-1-1, 3-1-0. PC remains atop the ECAC in a first place tie with Dartmouth, whom the Friars will host when they return to action on Nov. 20, at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
