CANTON, N.Y. -- The Providence College Friars were defeated by St. Lawrence University, 2-0, in ECAC women's ice hockey action on Saturday, November 11 at Canton, N.Y.

St. Lawrence got on the scoreboard first when sophomore forward Amanda Sargent (Port Moody, B.C.) netted what proved to be the game-winning goal at 4:47 of the first period. Sargent cut in from the right circle and lifted the puck over PC goalkeeper Amy Quinlan's (Baton Rouge, La.) glove hand to give the Saints the 1-0 advantage.

The Saints added an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining in the third period to take the 2-0 decision. Sophomore forward Shannon Smith (Fernie, B.C) picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and fired it into the PC goal as the game approached a conclusion.

Quinlan recorded a game-high 32 saves to lead the Friars, who fell to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in ECAC play.

Providence College will return to action on Saturday, November 18 when Niagara travels to Schneider Arena for a 2:00 p.m. faceoff.
