PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with HOCKEY EAST foe, the University of Maine. With the tie, Providence record goes to 3-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. Maine goes to 3-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the HOCKEY EAST.

Sophomore forward Robyn Law (Markham, Ont.) tallied the games first goal almost three minutes into the third period on an assist from senior forward Brigitte Laflamme (St. Augustin, Que.). The Black Bears registered the goal on their sixth power-play attempt. This was the eighth power-play goal the Friars have relinquished.

As the Black Bears thought they had the game wrapped-up, the were hit for two penalties within 20 seconds at 17:38 and 17:57 giving the Friars a five on three advantage for the last two plus minutes. Maine thought they had killed the penalties and were going home with the win when senior defender Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) found the back of the net with only 24 seconds remaining. Sophomore Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.) was credited with her second assist of the season. For Gigliotti, the goal was her team-high eighth of the season.

The teams played a five-minute overtime session but it could not determine a winner as the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Friars had multiple chances in the overtime, taking 11 shots but could not get past the Maine goaltender Rachel Gettings (Watervilet, N.Y.). Gettings made all 11 saves in the overtime session and finished the game with 26. Providence sophomore goalie Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.) had to stop just one shot in the overtime period and made 22 saves in the game. Ciarletta's record goes to 1-1-1 on the season.

Providence and Maine will face-off again tomorrow, Sunday, November 12 with a game time start of 7:00 p.m.
