PC Women's Hockey Tops Princeton In A Thriller, 2-1

Princeton, N.J.. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the Princeton Tigers, 2-1 on November 7, in ECAC women's hockey action at Baker Rink. Junior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) scored a break away, game-winning goal at the 18:39 mark of the third period to clinch the victory.

The Friars registered the first goal of the game at the 15:11 mark of the opening period, when freshman Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) scored her first career goal on a pass from Holley Tyng (E. Orleans, Mass.) to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. Princeton tied the game in the second period when Nikola Holmes flipped a rebound past Friar goaltender Sara Decosta (Warwick, R.I.) for a power play goal.

The third period was even, with both teams matching each other scoring chances untill Tabb's game-winning breakaway goal. She took the pass from Kim Mathias, (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) made one move, and beat Tiger goalie Susan Maes.

DeCosta recorded 16 saves in the win for the Friars, while Maes stopped 15 shots in the loss.

With the win, Providence improved to (3-1-0) overall and (2-0-0) in the ECAC, while Princeton dropped to (0-1-1) overall and (0-1-1) in ECAC play.

Providence College will return to action on Nov. 12 when they host Northeastern at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
