Providence Women's Hockey Shuts Out Yale, 4-0

New Haven, Conn. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the Yale University Bulldogs 4-0, in women's ECAC hockey action on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Yale's Ingalls Rink.

The Friars offense started rolling early as Jackie Tamsin (Branford, Conn.) beat Yale goalie Katie Hirte at the 9:23 mark of the first period, with a short handed goal. Two minutes later, PC notched it's second goal of the game, as freshman Melanie Ruzzi (Burnsville, Minn) scored a power play goal, on a pass from classmate Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) The score remained 2-0 untill a minute left in the game when Colleen Doherty (Arlington , Mass.) added the Friars second power play goal, to make it 3-0. Seconds later, senior forward Jennifer Bill (Minnetrista, Minn) added an empty net goal, to close out the 4-0 Friar victory

Providence goalie Sara DeCosta stopped 14 shots for the shutout win, while Hirte saved 26 shots in the loss.

With the win, Providence improved to 2-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in ECAC action, while Yale dropped to 0-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.

Providence College will return to action at Princeton on Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m.
