Women's Ice Hockey Ties Princeton, 4-4
Nov. 5, 2000 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars tied Princeton University, 4-4, in ECAC women's ice hockey action on Sunday, November 5 at Providence, R.I. The Princeton Tigers posted three third period goals to send the game into overtime. Princeton recorded the game's first goal at the 16:28 mark when senior defenseman Laura Hays (Meadville, Pa.) converted on a power-play attempt. Less than one minute later, Providence freshman forward Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba) tallied her first career goal at the 17:06 mark. The Friars scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission. Junior defenseman Angela Hill (Pascoag, R.I.) beat Princeton freshman goalkeeper Megan Van Beusekom (Loretto, Minn.) at 13:02 on a pass from junior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.). Freshman defenseman Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa) gave Providence its second goal of the period when she fired a shot from the right point that got past Van Beusekom. Junior forward Andrea Kilborne (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) recorded two goals and one assist for Princeton in the third period to lead the Tigers' comeback effort. Kilborne's final goal came at 18:07 of the third period when she scored on a pass from senior forward Abbey Fox (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.). Neither squad was able to muster any offense during the overtime session as the game concluded in a 4-4 tie. In goal, Providence junior goalkeeper Crystal Nicholas (Tulsa, Okla.) stopped a game-high 26 shots to lead the Friars. Princeton's Van Beusekom recorded 16 saves in goal for the Tigers. Providence College will return to action on Friday, November 10 when the Friars travel to Cornell for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff.
