Box Score

The No. 8 Providence College women's ice hockey team tied No. 7 St. Lawrence, 2-2, on Saturday, October 26 at Schneider Arena. The Saints Trisha Powers opened the scoring with 50 seconds left in the first period when she received a long cross ice pass from Gina Kingsbury that put her in alone on freshman goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland). Rebecca Russell gave St. Lawrence a 2-0 lead with 1:01 left in the second period with the assists going to Emilie Berlinguette and Tracy Muzerall. As the third period started the Friars seemed to have a little more jump in their legs then they had in the first two periods and it did not take long for them to take advantage of it. At 8:41 of the third period, sophomore Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) scored her first goal of the season on a shot from down in front of the crease. She was assisted by senior Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) and junior Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.). The Friars continued to put pressure on the Saints and at 10:05 of the third senior Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) managed to slide the puck under goaltender Rachel Barrie from a scrum in front of the net. In overtime, the action was end to end but neither team could manage a goal. Freshman goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) started her third game and kept the Friars in the game making several key saves with her strong play. Providence College opens its HOCKEY EAST season on Friday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Kelley Rink to take on Boston College.
