Women's Ice Hockey Defeats St. Laurent, 2-0, In Exhibition Action

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the St. Laurent Patriots, 2-0, in women's exhibition hockey action on Sunday, October 22, 2000 at PC's Schneider Arena. The Friars scored the game's first goal at the 8:24 mark as freshman Merdith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa) converted on a power-play attempt, assisted by Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) and Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.). PC made it 2-0 as the trio of Roth, Tabb and Mathias connected again. This time, Tabb tallied the power-play goal, assisted by Roth and Mathias. The Friars' two first period goals ended up being the game's only scoring. The Friars' netminders preserved the shutout as Providence came away with the victory. PC goaltenders Brigid Keady (Northfield, Ill.), Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) and Crystal Nicholas (Tulsa, Okla.) combined for 10 saves in 60 minutes of play. Keady stopped eight shots for the victory. St. Laurent's Melissa Cote-Proulx made 32 saves in the loss. Providence College will return to action when they begin regular-season play on October 28, at Findlay University in Findlay, Ohio at 2:00 p.m.
