Women's Hockey Skates To 3-3 Tie At Syracuse

 SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team tied Syracuse, 3-3, in an away non-conference game on Saturday, Oct. 18. Freshman Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) tallied her first collegiate points on two assists in the game.

Providence (0-4-1) got on the board first, with a quick goal 1:20 into the first period. Sophomore Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) notched her first goal of the season. Boquist registered the assist.

Syracuse (1-1-3) evened the game (1-1) in the second period, while on the power play, with a tally from Melissa Piacentini (2:23). Nicole Renault and Jessica Sibley earned the assist. The Orange scored at 16:27 to take a 2-1 advantage when Allie Lacombe scored with an assist from Sibley. Providence retaliated right away at 17:13, right off of a faceoff, when junior Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) buried a slap shot in the back of the net. Senior Haley Frade (Marion, Mass.) was credited with the assist.

In the third period, the Friars took a 3-2 lead at 12:14 when senior Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) scored a power goal by with helpers from Boquist and Frade. Syracue soon evened the game at 13:35 when Lacombe scored her second goal of the game with the assists going to Piacentini and Sibley. Providence ended regulation on the power play, as it rolled over to overtime.

Both teams had chances to score in overtime as play was back-and-forth, but the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Providence had a 3-1 advantage in shots.

Overall, the Orange outshot the Friars, 32-25. Each team netted a power play goal with Providence going 1-for-6 and Syracuse going 1-for-5.

Junior Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) recorded a career-high 29 saves in the net for the Friars.

Abbey Miller turned away 22 shots for the Orange in her first showing of the season.

The Friars return to action tomorrow to face Colgate for a 2:00 p.m. game.
