BOSTON MASS. (March 4, 2006) -- The Providence College women's hockey team was defeated by Boston College, 3-1, in the 2006 Hockey East Semifinals at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. The Friars suffered their first loss in HOCKEY EAST Tournament history and fall to 33-14 all-time in post-season action. Providence concludes the season with a 17-14-4 overall mark. The Eagles gained redemption from their 9-1 loss in last season's league semifinals round. The Friars conclude the season with a 17-14-4 record.

The Friars went one-for-four on the power play and went six-for-six on the penalty kill. PC held the Eagles to only two shots on the penalty kill.

Boston College went up 2-0 after the first period. Erin Blood scored the game's first goal at 10:59. Shannon Webster and Becky Zavisza were awarded the assists on the play. At 14:48, Sarah Feldman netted a goal while Deb Spillane and Brie Baskin earned assists.

Both teams played hard defensively in the second period as the score was held to a standstill.

Zavisza increased the Eagle advantage, 3-0, with a goal at 5:55 of the third period. Webster earned her second assist of the game on the play.

At 14:29, the Friars made one last push with a power play goal by sophomore Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ontario). Boston College switched lines when senior Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) slung the puck to freshman Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ontario) who passed the puck to Smith for the goal.

The Friars were outshot 22-18. Bugden posted 19 saves in 57:58 for the Friars, while Alison Quandt of BC recorded 17.
