The Providence College women's hockey team defeated Boston College, 4-1, on Saturday, March 2 at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

With the win, the Friars improved to 17-12-4 and 11-6-3 in the ECAC Eastern League. PC is in fourth place with 25 points and with a victory against Boston College on Sunday, March 3, the Friars will claim third place. The Eagles dropped to 8-18-4 overall and 4-13-3 in the league.

Junior Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.) scored a power-play goal to give the Friars a 1-0 lead after the first period. Junior Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) recorded the game-winning goal at the 6:12 mark of the second period. Sophomore Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and senior Jackie Tamsin (Branford, Conn.) assisted on Butsch's team leading 16th goal of the season. The Eagles cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by junior Thia Connolly.

The Friars increased their lead to 3-1 on Culgin's second tally of the afternoon with 35 seconds remaining in the second period. Freshman Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) capped off the scoring in the third period with her ninth goal of the season. PC outshot BC, 36-20. Senior Sharon VanTuyl made 32 saves for the Eagles while sophomore Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) stopped 19 shots.

The Friars complete the regular season on Sunday, March 3 against Boston College at 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
