Women's Ice Hockey Falls to No. 9 New Hampshire, 7-4
Feb. 29, 2004 The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by the University of New Hampshire, 7-4, on Saturday, February 28 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Wildcats were led by Jackie Wedster, Linsay Hansen and Stephanie Jones as they each tallied two goals in the game. Hansen scored the game winner at 3:42 of the third and put the game out of reach at 19:12 with an empty-net goal. The Friars got on the board early in the second period with two goals as senior Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) scored at the 11 second mark followed by freshman Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) just 32 seconds later. Freshman Kristen Porter (Ayer, Mass.) and junior Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.) scored in the third but the Friars could not get the score closer than 5-4. Providence was outshot by New Hampshire, 42-31. Sophomore goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made 35 saves for the Friars as they fell to 15-12-2 overall on the season and 10-4-1 in HOCKEY EAST, while Melissa Bourdon made 27 saves for the Wildcats as they improved to 18-8-4 overall and 13-1-2 in HOCKEY EAST. Providence College returns to action on Sunday, February 29 as they travel to Durham, N.H. to take on No. 9 New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center at 2:00 p.m.
