Women's Hockey Defeated at UNH, 4-2
Feb. 23, 2002 The Providence College women's hockey team was defeated, 4-2, by the University of New Hampshire on Saturday, February 23 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H. With the win, the Wildcats moved into a third place tie with the Friars in the ECAC Eastern League with 23 points. UNH improved to 17-11-4 overall and 10-6-3 in league play, while the Friars dropped to 16-12-4 overall and 10-6-3 in the league. The Friars fell behind 2-0 early in the second period, but freshman Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.) cut the lead to 2-1 as she scored on the power play. Freshman Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) also scored on the player advantage at the 12:24 mark to tie the game after two periods. However, UNH's Janine Goulet scored two third period goals, including the game winner at the 6:54 mark to lift the Wildcats. UNH outshot PC, 42-26. Freshman goaltender Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) recorded a career-high 38 saves for the Friars, while Jen Huggon stopped 24 shots in the win. The Friars complete the regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series against Boston College on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3.
