Women’s Hockey Edged By No. 6 Boston College, 3-1.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College women’s hockey team was defeated by No. 6 Boston College, 3-1, on Feb. 19, 2017. The Friars move to 16-15-3 (11-10-3 HE) and the Eagles improve to 23-5-5 (17-4-3 HE). The game secured the Friars as a No. 4 seed entering the Hockey East Playoffs and Providence will host five-seed Vermont for a best-of-three series in the Quarterfinals.

The Friars and Eagles skated through a scoreless first period. Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) made 10 saves while BC’s Katie Burt made six saves.

The action began in the second period, when Brooke Boquist (Thunder Bay, Ontario) scored her second shorthanded goal of the season. Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) broke up the play at center ice and sent Boquist into Eagle territory for a wrist shot to beat Burt.

The Eagles responded with three goals to close the second period. At 12:19 Kenzie Kent scored to even the game. Caitrin Lonergan scored back-to-back goals at 14:13 and 16:43.

Myers added eight saves in the second period and Providence recorded 11 shots on goal.

Providence held Boston College from scoring a power play goal on three chances. The Eagles boast the highest power play percentage in the Nation and the Friars went 3-for-3 on the kill.

Neither team converted in the third period, despite Providence having many chances, including 17 shots in the final frame.

Myers finished with 24 saves and the Friars recorded 34 shots.

With the conclusion of the regular season, Providence will host the Hockey East Quarterfinals as a number four seed against the five-seed Vermont Catamounts. The Quarterfinals are a best-of-three series and will be played at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, and if needed 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26.
