CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College women's hockey team (16-12-4, 10-7-2 HOCKEY EAST) was defeated by Boston College (18-9-4, 15-3-1) by the score of 4-2 at Kelley Rink on Sunday afternoon. Junior Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Friars with two goals and freshman goalie Stacey Scott (Massena, N.Y.) recorded 17 saves in net.

BC's Jill McInnis got the Eagles on the board first as she slapped a shot from inside the right face-off circle at 8:47. Shannon Webster assisted on the play. Junior Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) netted her 17th goal of the season at 12:21, two feet away from the goal. Freshman Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ontario) passed the puck to sophomore Kathleen Smith (Waterloo, Ontario) who slapped it to Watrous for the goal. The Eagles gained the first period advantage with a goal by Deborah Spillane and the right face-off circle at 18:47. Freshmen Brie Baskin and Meghan Fardelmann earned assists on the play.

The Friars continued to go back-and-forth in the scoring column in the second period. At 2:31, Lee-J Mirasolo scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Sarah Courtney. At 5:59, senior Katelynn Laffin (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Katey Beach (Middlebury Heights, Ohio) earned assists to Watrous' second goal of the game. Laffin and Beach skated behind the net and passed the puck to each other before slapping it to a streaking Watrous on the left side of the net for the goal. However, the Eagles responded at 10:15 when Becky Zavisza earned a goal with an assist from Fardelmann. The Eagles ended the second period with a 4-2 advantage.

Both teams battled strong defensively as both netminders did not allow any more goals in the third period.

BC goalie Alison Quandt had a game-high 19 saves. PC wasn't able to convert on six power play opportunities while BC converted on one of its six power plays.

With the loss, the Friars fall to 16-12-4 overall and 10-7-2 in league action. In addition, the Boston College wins its fifth straight game. Next week, on Saturday, February 26, the Friars host Connecticut in their last home game of the season at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
