PROVIDENCE, R.I. (February 18, 2006). -- The No. 9 Providence College women's hockey team fell to Boston College, 4-1, at PC's Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. With the loss, the Friars fall to 16-11-4 overall and 10-6-2 in HOCKEY EAST action.

Providence fell victim to the Eagles' special teams as the Friars allowed two power play goals and one short-hander between the first and second periods. Jill McInnis scored the game's first goal at 2:17 of the first period on the power play assisted by Becky Zavisza and Brie Baskin. At 19:40, Lindsay Wright committed a two-minute body checking penalty, which gave the Friars a chance to tie the game before the end of the first period. Although, Maggie Taverna received the puck on a break away and netted a short-hander at 19:58. Sarah Feldman assisted on the play which gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first period.

At 11:38, Zavisza netted her 14th goal of the season on with a power play goal assisted by McInnis and Wright. BC extended its lead, 3-0, before the Friars would respond in the third period.

At 17:22, junior Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) netted the lone Friar goal. Providence pulled the goalie for an extra attacker. Senior Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) won a face-off on their offensive zone and slapped the puck to Watrous for the goal. With the assist, Payton earned her 18th of the season.

Boston College never let up and managed to score another goal at 17:42. Feldman earned her second assist of the game on the play.

Senior goalie Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) made 16 saves in net while BC's Alison Quandt made 17. The Friars were outshot 20-18. Providence went one-for-six on the power play and killed three-of-five penalties.
 

 

The Friars are back in action at Boston College on Sunday, February 19 at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Face-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
