Box Score

Providence, R.I. - Boston College took advantage of four first period goals and went on to beat the Friars by a score of 6-2 at Schneider Arena. Providence now stands at 13-14-4, and 10-5-3 in HOCKEY EAST play, while Boston College improves to 21-8-2 and 13-6-0 in HOCKEY EAST play.

The eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Anna McDonald's short-handed strike at 1:42 of the first period. McDonald was able to take a Deborah Spillane pass and beat Friar goaltender Danielle Ciarletta (Blaine, Minn.). The Friars evened the score at one when junior Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich) jammed home a loose puck in front of the Eagle net.

BC then went on to score three more goals to close out the first period. Allie Thunstrom gave the Eagles the lead once again at 7:47. The goal was assisted by Becky Zavisza and Maggie Taverna. McDonald then netted her second goal of the period, with assists from Kelli Stack and Erin Blood. Zavisza struck for the Eagles' final goal of the period at 17:37, with assists going to Spillane and Thunstrom.

The Friars got back into the game when they opened the second period scoring at the 3:18 mark. Mari Pehkonen (Tampere, Finland) was the beneficiary of several nice passes that ultimately ended up with Pehkonen slotting the puck into an empty net. The goal, which came on the power-play, was assited by Sarah Feldman (Fall River, Mass.) and Erin Normore (Cambridge, Ont.). Minutes later Pehkonen found herself alone in the slot, but she was unable to bring the Friars any closer as she was unable to beat Eagle goaltender Molly Schaus. Gabrielle Beaudry scored the next Eagle goal at 8:23 to put the game out of reach. The goal, assisted by McDonald and Stack, was scored while the Eagles were skating with the two-man advantage. BC closed out the scoring 17 seconds into the third period when Thunstrom scored her second of the night.

The Friars and Eagles meet again tomorrow at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
