The No. 9 Providence College women's ice hockey team defeated Quinnipiac University, 7-1, on Sunday, February 16 at Schneider Arena.

Providence had nine players who earned a point in the game and six who had a multiple point effort. The Friars got on the board 2:56 into the first period when junior Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) scored on an assist from senior Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.). Halcisak also scored early in the second off of an assist from junior Darlene Stephenson (Virden, Manitoba). Senior Jenn Butsch (Berlin, Vt.) netted the first of her three goals on the day at 7:09 in the first with the assists going to Culgin and junior Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa). Butsch scored her second of the day with 6:35 remaining in the first period from Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) and sophmore Emily Gryp (Lexington, Mass.). She scored her third and final goal of the day with 2:11 remaining in the game. Senior Melanie Ruzzi (Burnsville, Minn.) earned an assist on Payton's goal in the first period. Stephenson scored a goal and added another assist, while sophomores Payton and Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) had a goal and an assist and three assists, respectively.

Providence outshot Quinnipiac, 54-17. Junior Amy Quinlan (Baton Rouge, La.) made 16 saves on 17 shots as the Friars moved to 19-6-6 overall on the year, while Quinnipiac fell to 5-22-0 overall.

No. 9 Providence College returns to action on Saturday, February 22 when they host New Hampshire at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
